Proyecto Erasmus

My experience as Erasmus in Lohfelden
From May 13 to 18 I had the opportunity to be part of the IES Antonio de Mendoza expedition composed of 10 students and 2 teachers to the German city twinned with Alcalá la Real: Lohfelden.
A week of great learning for both teachers and students. A spectacular welcome from the host families and an exchange of knowledge, learning methodologies and educational systems that contributed a lot to us. My partner Toñi and I were welcomed by the coordinator and English teacher, Jochen. Her family, including her bunnies, are absolutely lovely. We had the opportunity to attend several classes in Spanish, English, geography, history and other subjects. I was surprised by its innovative projectors (they allow you to broadcast the screen of your mobile device) and its portable whiteboard (very comfortable), the much more ambitious attention to immigrant students (many more hours of individualized attention for teaching German in the first year) and how kind and friendly the German teachers and students were at all times. Lohfelden was near Kassel, a city destroyed in the Second World War by the British in a sad story like that carried out during Nazi Germany and the greatest war in our history that claimed so many millions of lives. We visited a bunker where the civilian population took refuge and I was surprised by the ambitious project in German schools to visit some Nazi concentration camp in the last year (equivalent to our 4th year of ESO) to prevent new generations from knowing the past and learning of him so that such dramatic events are not repeated. We were also able to enjoy excursions with our Erasmus students on a tourist bus and to emblematic sites such as Hercules, where the water show amazed us. For our students it was an unforgettable experience. Some did not want to return and were already hoping that the Germans would come to visit them, as has happened this June. In short, a very enriching experience that has contributed a lot to us as teachers and as people.
